Sheyda Aisha Khaymaz (1986, Istanbul) is a sculptor and curator based in Manchester and Istanbul. They gained a BA in Fine Art from Northumbria University, Newcastle and graduated with a Master's in Curating from the University of Sunderland. They are currently co-director and editor of Lungs; an artist-led curatorial project with an annual contemporary arts & literature print publication with a focus on emerging artists and writers of colour. Khaymaz's artistic and curatorial practices are primarily concerned with the production of knowledge in the everyday, and examining existing power structures within the culture through epistemology. Their current research interests include postcolonial theory, politics of representation, social justice, and ethics of curating. In 2016, they were awarded the Lim Ai Fang Art Prize in the Woon Foundation Painting and Sculpture Prize, with an accompanying exhibition of shortlisted artists at BALTIC 39, Newcastle upon Tyne. They exhibited in Venice in April 2017 as one of the finalists in the sculpture and installation category of 11th Arte Laguna Prize. They were recently awarded an artist's residency in Tasarim Bakkali in Istanbul, Turkey between November 2017 and January 2018.
